Power is the least glamorous line on any event budget and the one most likely to end the night early. You do not need an electrician's ticket to be a safe promoter — you need these five habits and a hire company that does the maths with you.
Separate your worlds
Audio, lighting and catering should live on separate supplies — or at minimum separate phases. A dimmer chase dragging the voltage down is how clean vocal mixes turn to mush, and a caterer's urn tripping a shared breaker mid-headline is a story nobody wants to tell.
Ramp everything the public crosses
- Every cable across a walkway gets a rated ramp, not tape and hope
- Keep runs out of standing water and off tent peg lines
- Weatherproof boxes on every outdoor joint, checked at dusk
Get the paperwork
Venues and councils increasingly ask for test certificates and a single-line diagram. Our electrical hire packages include both, plus a tech who walks the site with you before gates. If your current supplier shrugs at the word "discrimination study", find one who does not.
