Doors in twenty minutes, console still in its flight case? Relax. Hired DJ kit arrives patched and labelled — this routine gets you from case to first track without the panicked cable hunt.
Minutes 0–5: power and position
Case open, console on a stable surface at waist height, power on last. Mains to the mixer first, then booth monitors, then the PA feed — powering up in signal-flow order avoids the turn-on thump that terrifies venues.
Minutes 5–15: gain before glamour
- Set channel gains so the loudest track peaks at zero, not in the red
- Patch booth output to your monitor and keep it independent of master
- Test both mic inputs — MCs always arrive earlier than promised
Minutes 15–20: the headphone check
Cue a track, confirm the monitoring headphones split cleanly between cue and master, and walk the floor while it plays. If the bass overwhelms the mids at the bar, trim the booth — not the master — and you are done. Our 07 Channel Console ships with this exact cheat sheet taped inside the lid.
